Dan has been a progressive champion in Congress, fighting to deliver on an agenda that rewards work and not wealth. Dan has cosponsored game-changing policies like Medicare for All Act, the Green New Deal, and Universal Childcare. 

 

As a member of both the Homeland Security and Judiciary Committees, Dan has been on the front lines of combatting the Trump administration's inhuman deportation dragnet, going toe-to-toe with MAGA-world figures like Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, and Kristi Noem. 

 

Thanks to Dan’s work in Congress, the President signed an extension of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, to ensure the survivors, first responders, and volunteers from September 11, 2001 will never go without the healthcare they deserve. Dan led the 9/11 Responder and Survivor Health Funding Correction Act of 2025 and worked with Leaders Schumer and Jeffries to ensure the bill was included in must-pass legislation in Congress.

 

Dan was instrumental in passing significant reforms to the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, which doubled the number of affordable housing units eligible to be built through this federal program.  

 

As of February 2026, Dan has secured nearly $190 million to fund critical infrastructure, transit, and housing projects across New York’s 10th district. This included:

 

• Securing a $164 million grant, the largest in NYC EDC history, to revitalize the Brooklyn Marine Terminal, a redevelopment Dan led that will build more than 2,400 units of affordable housing.

• Securing $50 million in long delayed Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERC) refunds for small businesses, $20 million of which were returned to 289 New York-based small businesses.

• Alongside Governor Hochul, providing $200 million in food assistance to more than 1.5 million low-income children as part of the new Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer (Summer EBT) program.

• Through his bipartisan relationships, Dan successfully helped to restart the Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project in April 2025. 

 

As a result of his advocacy in Congress, Dan has successfully:

 

• Secured more than $22.8 million in direct investments into NY-10 communities in the annual government appropriations bills. 

• Returned more than $10 million directly to constituents through advocacy and casework.

• Successfully closed nearly 7,000 constituent cases, including approximately 400 in NYCHA developments.

 

In response to Trump’s cruel and unlawful immigration dragnet, Dan and his team created a triage center in his Manhattan district office, located across the street from 26 Federal Plaza, to support families whose loved ones have been unlawfully detained by ICE. 

 

• This team has partnered with advocates to provide services to families of detainees’ and have coordinated with legal services organizations to assist with habeas petitions, and provide urgent legal guidance. 

• To date, Dan’s operation has led to the release of 25 immigrants from ICE custody.
