DAN GOLDMAN’S CLOSING ARGUMENT: RECENT EVENTS PROVE DONALD TRUMP IS A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

New York, NY - Dan Goldman, candidate for Congress in NY-10 and lead counsel for Trump’s first impeachment, today made his closing argument 11 days out from election day: Donald Trump is a clear and present danger to our national security.

Recent reporting from national news outlets indicate that the court-authorized raid of Mar-a-Lago was predicated on the information from an inside source that former President Trump was in unlawful possession of classified nuclear documents. This follows the initiation of a DOJ investigation in January after 15 boxes of documents — including some marked as classified — were belatedly provided to the National Archives, and a subpoena for additional documents in June. The fact that the FBI was left with no recourse but to apply for a search warrant to obtain these nuclear documents makes it abundantly obvious that Donald Trump is more than a criminal - he is a clear and present threat to our country’s national security.

Dan Goldman, who served as Senior Advisor and Director of Investigations on the House Intelligence Committee and lead counsel in Trump’s first impeachment investigation, is the only candidate in the field with extensive national security experience and who has investigated Trump.

“Our nation is facing an unprecedented threat from within, and the stakes could not be higher,” Dan Goldman said. “Our democracy and our national security are at grave risk, and we must ensure Donald Trump and his followers in the Republican party do not undermine our democracy and sell us out to foreign adversaries. I am running for Congress because my experience in Congress is uniquely important in these perilous times. Elected Democrats must stand as the bulwark against authoritarianism and threats to our national security, and I look forward to being among their ranks to do just that.”

Dan Goldman is an attorney and legal expert who served as lead counsel in the first impeachment of Donald Trump and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York prior to that.

As lead counsel in the first impeachment of Donald Trump, Goldman worked under the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence as Senior Advisor and Director of Investigations. Goldman directed the strategy of the investigation and also led the closed depositions and questioning of witnesses during the Intelligence Committee’s open hearings. He oversaw the drafting and publication of the Select Committee’s 300-page report on the investigation, The Trump-Ukraine Impeachment Inquiry Report, investigating the administration’s improper conduct towards Ukraine. He also testified about the report before the House Judiciary Committee. That report led to the eventual impeachment of former President Donald J. Trump in the U.S. House of Representatives. Finally, Goldman served as lead counsel to the House Impeachment Managers during the Senate trial of Donald Trump.
