Expanding the Middle Class

The cost of living keeps increasing while wages remain the same. Many Americans were already struggling to make ends meet - now with rising costs due to inflation, and in some cases corporate greed, it is getting even harder. Americans need to get back to work, but that work must be compensated fairly. That is why Dan is supportive of the PRO Act which makes it easier for employees to form a union to negotiate for better pay, benefits, and working conditions. The PRO Act also increases penalties for corporations that engage in union-busting or retaliate against workers who are organizing and speaking out to improve their workplace. Strengthening unions helps decrease income inequality and produces a stronger economy for all.

We need to expand the economic pie and increase opportunity for all Americans. A rising tide lifts all boats, and the federal government must incentivize creativity and innovation. Dan believes we should promote business development and require corporations to pay their fair share and give more back to the communities they rely upon, which will create jobs and expand the tax base, helping lift people out of poverty.

Dan supports increasing the national minimum wage, universal child care, making healthcare affordable, paid family leave, and the Social Security 2100 Act, which will expand and protect Social Security into the next century.

Many of the issues everyday Americans struggle with are intertwined. A lack of affordable housing makes housing prices go up and puts buying a home out of reach. The high cost of childcare with no paid family leave makes it difficult for couples to start a family and maintain their careers. Congress has a role to play by appropriating funds to support new housing development, provide more oversight over monopolies, and extend the expanded child tax credit which has been one of the most successful anti-poverty actions in decades.

During the pandemic, businesses across the country suffered as their doors were shuttered for months. In the 10th congressional district, there are countless small businesses that still need more aid from the federal government.

Dan will fight for more aid from Washington to assist with the expenses and continuous help that small businesses need from Congress. Dan will advocate for more funding in the budget for the small business owners and workers in the 10th congressional district.

Long-term solutions to supply-chain issues that are driving up inflation will take time, however the federal government must act quickly and decisively to do everything in its power to alleviate the disparity between supply and demand. Congress should make more funds available to help clear the backlogs at our ports. We need to modernize our systems and extend railways to speed up the transfer of goods.
