DAN GOLDMAN, CANDIDATE FOR CONGRESS IN NY-10 AND LEAD COUNSEL FOR TRUMP’S FIRST IMPEACHMENT, ENDORSED BY FORMER BROOKLYN CONGRESSMAN ED TOWNS

New York, NY - Dan Goldman, candidate for Congress in NY-10 and lead counsel for Trump’s first impeachment, was today endorsed by former U.S. House Representative Ed Towns. Towns represented District 10 and District 11 including the neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, and Prospect Heights. After former Representative Steve Israel, Representative Towns is the second former member of the New York Congressional Delegation to endorse Goldman.

“Dan Goldman will be the Congressmember we need at this moment, one who is experienced at dealing with the most pressing issues we face,” Former Congressman Ed Towns said. “Dan is a coalition builder who can bring people together at a time when Democrats must stand united against the threats posed by the radical Republicans in Washington, and I trust him to get the job done.”

“Congressman Towns has been a champion for this city and I am humbled to receive his vote of confidence,” Dan Goldman said. “Everything is at stake, and the threats we face to our democracy and our fundamental rights require a unified Democratic party. I look forward to representing this district in a way that brings everyone to the table, so no voice goes unheard, and I thank Congressman Towns for standing with me.”

Former Congressman Ed Towns served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 2013 and as deputy borough president for Brooklyn from 1976 to 1982. During his 30 years in Congress, Towns was Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and served on the Committees of Public Works and Transportation, Select Narcotics Abuse and Control, and Energy and Commerce.

Towns is a passionate supporter of healthcare reform – strongly pushing for improved access to health services for underserved communities. Towns also fought to have the Environmental Protection Agency test for contamination in neighborhoods outside of the borough of Manhattan in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

His legislative accomplishments include the Student Right to Know Act, the Telecommunications Development Fund, and working to convince city planners to build new waste incinerators away from minority communities.

Prior to his election to Congress, Towns served in the U.S. Army for two years before moving to New York City where he taught at Medgar Evers College, Fordham University, and in the city’s public schools.

Dan Goldman and his wife, Corinne, live in lower Manhattan where they are raising their five children. In 2019, Dan Goldman served as lead counsel for the impeachment investigation of President Donald J. Trump for abusing his office for his personal interest regarding Ukraine. In that role, Goldman led depositions and questioned witnesses in public hearings, and testified before the House Judiciary Committee.

Prior to that, Goldman served for a decade as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York working with Preet Bharara. In that role, he held powerful actors accountable and made our city safer. He took on some of the office’s biggest and most consequential cases: prosecuting violent criminals and gun trafficking, mafia bosses and Russian organized crime, and landmark insider trading and major corporate fraud cases. In law school, Goldman contributed to Michelle Alexander’s seminal book, The New Jim Crow, which addressed the inequalities in our criminal justice system.

The Democratic Primary in New York’s 10th congressional district is on Tuesday, August 23.
