Protecting Our Democracy
Holding Trump Accountable
Dan believes that Donald Trump is an existential threat to our democracy. Since Dan proved the case as the lead counsel for the first impeachment of Donald Trump, he has been fighting to expose Trump’s criminality and to hold him accountable for his outrageous corruption and abuses of power.
During his time in Congress, Dan has:
-
Led efforts to force the release of the Epstein files.
-
Undermined House Republicans’ bogus investigation of Hunter Biden.
-
Effectively cross-examined Trump cabinet officials who have blatantly violated their oaths of office, including forcing former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to admit she violated the law.
When Democrats take back the House this November, Dan will lead the push to:
-
Hold Trump and his cabinet accountable by exposing this administration’s flagrant disregard of the rule of law.
-
Investigate Trump’s blatant corruption, including pay-for-play schemes, accepting campaign donations in exchange for Presidential pardons, and using his office to amass a personal fortune.
-
Expose the Epstein Files cover-up and demand Donald Trump provide testimony to Congress about his extensive relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
-
Pass new legislation codifying the independence of the DOJ, barring federal officials and their families from reaping financial benefits as the result of holding federal office, and holding the Supreme Court accountable for ethics and conflict of interest violations.
Dan has supported a number of legislative and legal efforts to hold Trump accountable, including:
-
Winning a lawsuit against the Trump administration with 11 other members of Congress to force the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to permit congressional oversight over their 26 Federal Plaza detention facility.
-
Introducing a resolution Reaffirming the Twenty-second Amendment, to bar Trump from a third term in office.
-
Introducing the Prohibiting Political Prosecutions Act, to prohibit the DOJ from considering partisan association in investigations or prosecutions.
-
Cosponsoring Rep. Morelle’s proposed Amendment to the Constitution, to make clear that the President may not grant a pardon to himself and is not immune from criminal prosecution.
Honest, Transparent Government
Dan believes the government can only function properly when it is accountable to the people. Throughout his time in Congress, Dan has consistently been a supporter of reforms to voting, ethics, and public corruption in order to restore Congress’s moral leadership.
During his time in Congress, Dan has:
-
First sounded the alarm about Republican efforts to rig the 2026 election by seizing voting machines and using federal agents to intimidate voters and restrict access to polling places.
-
Led the effort to expel George Santos from Congress.
-
Exposed the blatant corruption of Trump and his allies.
-
Advocated for stronger conflict of interest controls for public office.
When Democrats take back the House this November, Dan will lead the push to:
-
Ban stock trading by members of Congress and administration officials to prevent conflicts of interest and restore public trust.
-
End the politicization of the law by explicitly forbidding political prosecutions by the DOJ, like that of New York Attorney General Tish James.
-
Fight corruption in our government by closing dangerous loopholes that effectively legalize bribes for public officials.
-
Protect and expand voting rights, and expand access to same day voter registration and early voting nationwide.
-
Pass a prohibition on Congressional gerrymandering, to end the practice of politicians selecting their voters.
In Congress, Dan has introduced a number of good government reforms:
-
Introduced the No Gratuities for Governing Act, to close a dangerous loophole which allows public officials to receive bribes in the form of ‘tips’ for their official actions as long as the benefit is received after the official action is made.
-
Introduced the No Political Prosecutions Act, to enact guardrails to prevent the Trump administration and future administrations from misusing the justice system to target political opponents.
-
Introduced the Early Voting Act, to require early voting for all federal elections.
-
Cosponsored the Democracy For All Amendment, a Constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and put an end to unrestrained campaign spending and dark money corrupting American democracy.
-
Filed the original complaint to the Ethics Committee that led to a historic vote to expel Rep. George Santos for misconduct, ethics violations and outright fraud.
-
Cosponsored Rep. Roy and Rep. Magaziner’s Restore Trust in Congress Act, to ban members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from owning or trading individual stocks, securities, commodities, or futures.
-
Cosponsored Rep. Sewell’s John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, to restore and update the protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) and to ensure every voter, regardless of race or background, has equal access to the ballot.
Ethical & Independent Courts
Dan believes our judicial system should be held to the highest standards of ethics and impartiality. This means instituting common-sense reforms to ensure improper bias is not affecting our court system.
During his time in Congress, Dan has:
-
Led calls to overhaul the Supreme Court, restoring independence and impartiality to the highest court in the nation.
-
Fought to protect the judicial process from partisan interference and intimidation by Donald Trump and MAGA appointees.
When Democrats take back the House this November, Dan will lead the push to:
-
Insulate courts from political interference, including pressure from the White House.
-
Establish a dedicated investigative body within the Supreme Court that would provide transparency and accountability.
-
Mandate a binding code of ethics for Supreme Court justices, including clear standards on recusals and conflicts of interest.
-
Expand the Supreme Court by prospectively adding four new justices and adding term limits for all Supreme Court justices.
In Congress, Dan has supported a number of reforms to restore independence to our courts:
-
Introduced Supreme Court Ethics and Investigations Act with Rep. Nadler, to establish a dedicated investigative body within the Supreme Court that would provide transparency and accountability through exhaustive investigations into alleged ethical improprieties.
-
Cosponsored Rep. Johnson’s Supreme Court Tenure Establishment and Retirement Modernization Act, to establish term limits for Supreme Court justices and a regularized appointments process every two years.
-
Cosponsored Rep. Khanna’s Supreme Court Term Limits and Regular Appointments Act, to establish 18-year term limits on any Supreme Court justices approved after the bill is signed into law.
-
Cosponsored Rep. Johnson’s Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act, to provide for a code of conduct for justices of the Supreme Court.
